“If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself.” ― Rick Riordan, The Lightning Thief
Every morning you awake, you greet the world anew. Whether it be sun, rain, or cloudy days outside your window, this is a fresh day – yours for the taking. Empty hours lie before you, awaiting your arrival and wondering how you’ll fill them.
To the world at large, this is a gift. Endless possibilities abound, and all that’s required on your part is … well … action. And it’s upon this request that the human mind can turn this perfectly-wrapped gift into a nightmare.
Firstly, putting one leg after another on the ground can often feel like scaling Mount Everest. As Lewis Carrol put it, ‘Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.’ Well, many of us believe six awful and untrue things about ourselves/life before breakfast.
So why’s this the case?
Well, uncertainty can be overwhelming. Instead of thinking something is important, we believe everything is important. And it might be. But who really knows? There’s absolutely no manual for life, and every rule book that’s been put forward has been turned down. No one has the answers, and they’re certainly not more qualified than you to make bets – so it’s up to you to decide. No matter what you’ve been told, you hold the power to carve out your day. You can determine what will influence your mood and what won’t.
In other words, your guess at what matters is as good as anyone’s. No one wakes up with certainty, but they do rise with hope.
One way to set the tone of your day is to accept that nothing has a meaning except the one you ascribe to it.
The meaning you give things are personal and inherited from your past experiences. Everything that happened in your life has a purpose and one of them is to enable you to grow. Temporary circumstances don’t have to become your reality. When you take control of the meaning you assign to things you become the author of your own story.
Choose to set the tone of your day, be greater than your environment, greater than the conditions in your world and that will allow you to create a better reality for yourself.
Now, I’m not preaching here. I’m not talking about religion either. What I am saying, however, is you are the creator of your world and there’s more. And that alone is a powerful thought.
Accepting that there’s more to life can take us out of our heads and help us to focus our energy on what matters and giving better meanings to circumstances will propel you to the next level.
As Quoted by Wayne Dyer: “If you change the way you look at things the things you look at change.”
Enjoy your day
